Capacity booking in the Rehden storage facility for 2023/24
Kassel, 2 February 2023. With a working gas volume of 3.9 billion cubic meters, the Rehden storage facility is one of the largest natural gas storage facilities in Western Europe and plays a central role in securing the supply of natural gas to Germany and Europe.
In the coming storage year, it is also guaranteed that the Rehden storage facility will make a significant contribution to security of supply, as Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE) has booked significant capacities for the 2023/2024 storage year in Rehden by concluding corresponding bilateral storage contracts.
The Ruling Chamber 7 of the Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway) informed astora by letter that in order to ensure the legal objective of security of supply, the market area manager THE may conclude bilateral storage contracts for the storage year 2023/24. Therefore, the capacities to be put on the market by astora at the Rehden storage facility will be reduced by corresponding quantities.
The remaining free capacity for the storage year 2023/24 will be offered by astora on the PRISMA capacity platform in due course.
astora GmbH, based in Kassel, is part of the SEFE Group and one of the largest natural gas storage operators in Europe. The company maintains one of the largest natural gas storage facilities in Western Europe at Rehden in Northern Germany, which has a working gas volume of about four billion cubic metres. In addition, the storage company also markets its capacity in the second largest storage facility in Central Europe, located in Haidach, Austria. In order to secure natural gas supplies to Europe, astora also operates and markets 5/6 of the capacity in the Jemgum cavern storage facility on the German-Dutch border.
